Alternate Text

This question is indeed a difficult one to answer. The interviewer has no further questions about you but is opening up the floor for you to talk about yourself. They want specifics, and they want to see you brag about yourself. How do you answer this open-ended question? As intimidating as the question is, there are ways to handle it successfully.

Why Interviewers Ask This Question

You probably think it is a trap whenever someone asks you the question. An interviewer can use the question in this fashion. However, it is more probable that the interviewers are genuinely looking for the best person for the job. They seek people who know and understand themselves well enough to tell others what makes them interesting. A hiring manager may be trying to discover things about you, including: Your particular skills and qualifications that you did not mention when answering the other questions Any noteworthy accomplishments that might not be directly relevant to the job at hand but may reflect your work ethic Any career aspirations or other positions you might be interested in chasing at the company Any connection the two of you might share Your confidence and ability to continue the conversation

How to Answer This Question

It is best to begin your answer with a summary of some of the crucial strengths that you have shared with the interviewer. Doing this will help the interviewer remember why you are a strong candidate for the position. After you recap your qualifications, add a few skills or abilities that you did not mention earlier in the interview. Of course, make sure that what you say is relevant to the position you seek. The more your credentials match up, the better your chances of receiving an offer. If you have additional time, mention a specific example of a time when you demonstrated this quality you want to highlight. Explain how your contribution added value to another company. Emphasize your interest in the job and in working for the organization. An answer such as this will summarize why you are a strong candidate and show the interviewer that you are enthusiastic about the position. This closing statement reminds the interviewer why you are the ideal candidate for the job. You might love or hate the question, but it is a fantastic way to end your interview by clarifying details you overlooked earlier or adding a touch of your personality to the discussion. Take the time to practice answering this question to be ready to talk about yourself if the question comes up in your next job interview.
